A Crucian staple

Miss Anna’s Hot Pepper Sauce, an all-natural condiment created from a 100-year-old Crucian recipe, won a prestigious Scovie Award, snaring a first prize win in the Authentic Caribbean Hot Sauce category.
The Scovie Awards, created by Dave DeWitt, editor of Fiery-Foods & BBQ Magazine and founder of the National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show, are named for Wilbur Scoville who pioneered a rating scale for spicy foods.
The recipe for Miss Anna’s Hot Pepper Sauce originated with Anna Dennis, a native of St. Lucia, who has lived in St. Croix for forty or so years.
It had been passed down for four family generations before being sold to Crucian Sauces, a St. Croix based company.
Miss Anna’s Hot Pepper Sauces is a staple in Crucian households and restaurants. The sauce is still made as a microbrew.
Miss Anna’s and other sauces, which are distributed in the U.S. Virgins Islands, will eventually be available in more Caribbean islands and North America.
