Puerto Rico's holiday nog
Just say coquito and you'll smile

Coquito, a drink as delightful and festive as it sounds, is a Christmas holiday staple in Puerto Rico. Ingredients vary according to family traditions and tastes, but it’s often made with egg yolks, coconut or condensed milk, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Some secret recipes have been passed down for generations, and savvy bar chefs compete to create this magic in a glass.
Narciso Morena, a native of Puerto Rico who works for Puerto Rico’s Tourism Company in New York, shares his recipe, which wins rave reviews. He says his secret is no egg, and the use of a spiced Puerto Rican rum, which makes it less like an American egg nog, and well, more like Coquito.
