Report names BVI top spot in Caribbean

The British Virgin Islands landed at the top of the list of the region’s best countries in the Caribbean and Central America for quality of life, according to a recent report by fDi “Caribbean & Central American Countries of the Future 2011/12". Quality of life ranking was factored according to criteria that included life expectancy, employment, per capita income, crime and infant mortality.

Other Caribbean island countries making the top 10 list for quality of life in descending order were Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, Turks and Caicos, Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba, Costa Rica and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The British Virgin islands also took second place for its abundance of human resources and scored seventh among the top 10 for best countries of the future.

The “Caribbean & Central American Countries of the Future” reports from fDi are created by an independent collection of data by the fDi Intelligence division across 31 Caribbean and Central American countries.

Authentic in its Caribbean identity, the British Virgin islands remain an unspoiled haven of natural treasures free from high-rise hotels, casinos and cheap fast food franchises..

Well-known as “the Sailing Capital of the World,” the BVI has fair weather and constant winds year round. Most islands are contained within an 80 nautical kilometer radius and can be reached by line of sight navigation. Sailing enthusiasts find a large selection of crewed and bareboat charters, which makes it easy to exploore the islands’ also rich natural resources.

Accommodations vary from “floating rooms,” intimate small inns and world-famous resorts such as Biras Creek, which was just named the top resort in the region by Trip Advisor.
